Florida Strawberry Festival Photo Safari
Thursday March 7, 2013 7:00 - 9:30 PM
Ever wonder how people take such great pictures at night? The
is great place to learn night photography and have a blast with others. C'mon out and join our group for this Photographic Safari! Along with eating some famous Plant City Strawberry Shortcake, we will spend a few hours shooting the midway, people, and all of the action in this fun and photographically target rich environment.
The festival is a great place for learning and enhancing your night/low light photography know-how as well as hone your documentary photography skills.
Participation is limited to 12 people.
Prerequisites include having taken Photo 101 or have a working knowledge of you camera. (Know how to set your shutter speed and f-stop and what they mean). Equipment best suited for night photos will have an adjustable ISO, a long shutter speed of at least 10 seconds, and the ability to manually control the f-stop. Tripods are also
helpful, so bring one if you have it. If you are wondering about tripods, you can see my blog entry
It tells you what to consider when buying one.
We will meet at 6:45 PM outside of Gate 1 (this is also the location for the main ticket office) .
Please remember that I'm available all night to work one-on-one with you and the others. If you have questions please feel free to ask. Safaris are meant to help you gain practical experience with your camera with a professional looking over your shoulder. I will demonstrate specific techniques and settings to get you started. My preference is that we stay together. However, if you are ready to venture out on your own away from the group, that's cool as well!
The physical address is
if you want to put it in your GPS. However, you cannot actually drive to the ticket office as the streets adjacent to the festival grounds are closed. The closest cross street is Oak Street and Thonotosass Rd. If you are unfamiliar with the area please try to arrive early. Thursday nights are usually not too bad, but there can be a lot of traffic in Plant City around the festival grounds. We will try to leave our meeting place at Gate 1 at 6:45 PM.
Please bring your cameras, sturdy tripod and camera manuals if you are unfamiliar with the dials. This is a great opportunity to learn how to shoot at night in such a beautiful and colorful environment. We will meet rain or (moon)shine as there are rarely any rain washouts at this time of year.
Cost is $45 for FMoPA members, $55 non-members; Price does not include admission to the Festival. (According to their website you can still buy discounted advanced tickets before March 10 at Sweetbay Supermarkets for $8)
