Patrick Manteiga carries forward one of Tampa’s most enduring media legacies as editor and publisher of La Gaceta Newspaper. The family-owned publication was founded in 1922 by his grandfather, Victoriano Manteiga, and later guided by his father, Roland Manteiga.

After Roland’s passing in 1998, Patrick took the helm, becoming the third generation to lead the paper.

For more than a century, La Gaceta has served as a cultural cornerstone of Tampa—published in English, Spanish, and Italian, and recognized as the only trilingual newspaper in the United States.

I photographed Patrick inside the paper’s home offices, where the walls are lined with a century’s worth of artifacts, awards, and photographs. Seated at his desk, with his father’s watchful presence just behind him and the tools of the trade surrounding him, the scene felt less like a portrait and more like a continuation of legacy, of storytelling, and of a place where history is recorded.
