District South Kitchen and Craft

Meatloaf- prime angus and lamb blend, fingerlings, broccolini, bourbon demi glace, crispy shallots.

After months of teasing with kraft paper covering the windows, District South Kitchen and Craft opened its doors last week. I don't usually tap eateries within the first few weeks, trying to give them a chance to get on their feet. But this kitchen is captained by Cody Tiner who has been at the helm of several spots including Piquant and most recently CW Gin Joint, so I thought I'd press my luck. Opened in the former La Dolce Vita space on South Dale Mabry, Tiner is leaning into southern comfort food that is sometimes influenced by his French cuisine aptitude. The menu is simple, offering crowd faves like Cuban sammies and elevated burgers, but also follows trends like Pork Belly & Gnocchi and Duck Fat Parm Fries. There are fresh catch and steak of the week specials as well. A worthy cross section of vegetarian dishes spots the menu. On my next trip I'm trying the Veggie "Philly" Melt.

Nice modern industrial vibe, outstanding service with snappy/friendly servers. Decent wine and beer list and currently selling mocktails (wine and Sake), but they report getting a full bar soon. Open for dinner and brunch. Moderate pricing.
