Beccofino- a hidden Italian gem in South Tampa

Tonno in Crosta- pistachio encrusted tuna steaks with capers blossoms and avocado aioli

Beccofino is the most unassuming place we've seen on our GOAT restaurant tour so far. It's in a small house on the south end of MacDill Ave. but packs a wallop when it comes to traditional Italian food. Most of the staff hail directly from Italy, the menu has a fantastic selection, and we felt like la famiglia.

The entire menu is made from scratch using in-house or locally sourced ingredients. Our first entrée is Tonno in Crosta- pistachio encrusted tuna steaks, served on a large smear of avocado aioli. The presentation is striking as the kitchen has placed the stakes up on their side to make great dramatic plate. The crust is seared just enough to add crunch, but the inside of that tuna steak is still nice and pink. Very tasty.

Pappardelle al Tartufo- egg pasta tossed with mushrooms, black truffle, with a cognac cream sauce.

The star of the night was the house Pappardelle al Tartufo. Those noodles were cooked with perfect al dente firmness, the cognac sauce gave the entire dish a mouthwatering creaminess, and oh, those truffles (shaved at the table).

We capped off the night with a glass of Prosecco paired with a beautiful Panna Cota

Reservations are recommended because seating is limited in this former house. This is the place if you are ready for an authentic Italian experience made from scratch. Salute!
