PHOTOGRAPHY 101 Camera Class

Are you Ready to master your camera settings? Do you want to take better family photos, start a photography side hustle, or just get your camera off of automatic? This class is for you! Photo 101 is a comprehensive two-day class designed to help you understand aperture, shutter speed, ISO, camera settings, and photo composition. The buttons and dials on many cameras can look intimidating. This class is designed to break them down in a logical sequence to help you understand how they all work.

The class is now offered with a combination of classroom learning and a live learning photo safari. Classroom time will be devoted to various aspects of camera operation, allowing you to ask specific questions about your camera. You will gain a better understanding of when to choose specific settings and gain confidence in your abilities. Our photo safari is a 2-hour session of practicing, questions, and challenges.

Whether you are trying to take better family photos or want to elevate your photography, you need to be able to control your camera effectively. This is the class for you!

This class was established in 2006 and is the original Photo 101 class in Tampa. It has helped thousands of people learn how to be better photographers. Classes meet one evening in person with an additional meeting on a Saturday morning. They are taught by Chip Weiner, an award-winning photojournalist and food photographer. Photo 101 is the longest-running photography workshop in Tampa!

• The Photo 101 class is for students who have and bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera. It is not a phone photography class

• Classes meet in central locations in Tampa

• Class is subject to change or cancellation for lack of minimum registrations.

• Please do not sign up for the class if you aren’t positive you will attend. Class size is limited, and if you take a spot and don’t attend, someone will lose out!

Course Content

Class 1. Learning and understanding exposure is the key to better and creative photography. Take your camera off “auto” by learning shutter speeds, apertures (f-stops), and ISO. We will also discuss the meaning and use of depth of field.

Class 2. Bring your camera, bring your lens, and bring your questions! We will practice some of the techniques and settings discussed in the first session as well as participate in a couple of photo challenges to sharpen your skills and have some fun.
